Martial arts is on the rise
Several students from EHS have expressed interest in creating a martial arts club. The club seeks to establish a friendly environment for students to demonstrate their skills in martial arts.
Trent Distelhorst, a senior at EHS, is the main contributor to this new idea. Trent said, “Martial arts helps in fitness, in self defense, and confidence.”
Many could possibly see martial arts as a dangerous and brutal way to hurt someone. This type of thought is just not the case; to counter such a statement Distelhorst said, “Social interactions will boost self esteem as it will better the performance in a classroom.”
Martial arts is a sport that teaches respect and tolerance for others. Misuse of this sport can in fact lead a person to be unwanted by the martial arts community.
In order for this club to be successful, Distelhorst needs permission from the school. He said, “We would first start by putting up posters and ask nicely for a morning announcement.”
Jack, a fellow member of I’mmortal, which is one of the best dojos in Enterprise stated, “The school needs a martial arts club because it can help students with bully prevention.” Many students around the country suffer from bullying, but martial arts is a solution to this type of problem.
The club hopes to teach people respect and tolerance and to persuade people to join the martial arts community. Distelhorst said, “At the end of the day martial arts is not about fighting: it’s about self discovery and self improvement at home and at school.”
