GEMS recruiting at EHS
The GEMS program is hoping to recruit student leaders by advertising at EHS. GEMS offers a fun and exciting experience over the summer as juniors and seniors are eligible to become near peer mentors. Additionally, the program provides valuable experience in science fields and reference for the future workforce.
The Program starts during the summer of 2018 but begins to accept applications a few months before school restarts for the New Year. Juniors and seniors will have the opportunity to become near pear mentors that can teach younger ones about different sciences that are available such as biochemistry and neuroscience.
The application can be found on the GEMS, website which will ask each candidate several questions about his or her life and education. Transcripts are required, and the GEMS staff will look over a candidate’s education and see how they can function as Near-Peer Mentors.
Trent Disdelhorst, a student at EHS, said, “GEMS seems like a good program as it gives students the opportunity to see how teaching works.”
Being a Near Peer mentor may seem like a difficult job, but it is offers an invaluable experience to responsible students.
