Superior scores for drama department

Ms. Stephenson and her 28 talented students competed at Trumbauer District Competition at Opelika High School on November 28 with one act, songs, monologues, duets and a pantomime.

Twenty-one students came out with superior scores, eighteen qualified for state, two were allstar performers, and they were the best ensemble for the one acts.

“It was incredible for all of my hard work to pay off. I was honored to be given the opportunity to represent my district at state” said Claudia Moore, senior at EHS who had won superior and qualified for state for both of her pieces, solo and duet musical dramatic.

The one reward director Stephenson was most proud of was the best ensemble award for their one act, “A Wrinkle in Time.”

“We had extensive rehearsals and put away a lot of rehearsal time to perfect every movement. Our main goal was to make the ensemble one unit and definitely achieved that,” said Claudia Moore.

The students who went to state received scores from excellent to superior, but one special duet scene placed in their category.

Ava Gothard and Laura Davis won third place in their category for duet musical dramatic. The two sung “Angel of Music” from the Phantom of the Opera.

“We have had Phantom of the Opera in our lives for a while now, and we love the show so we already know the song, “Angel of Music.” All we had to work on was our harmonizing and the blocking, which Seantaé helped us with. So I was happy to see all our hard work earn is a trophy.” said Laura Davis, Sophomore at EHS.
