Grey. It was Grey something. But was it Grey or Gray. A name or the color?

It was an accident

When you started working at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, you felt completely out of place. It was Dr. Alex Karev that made you feel at home. He became your best friend, and through him you gained friends with all the other attendings.

The other interns were jealous about your advantage and cast you out of their circle, but Alex made sure you always had someone to talk to.

You stood in surgery with Dr. Meredith Grey, while the patient was having a simple appendectomy.

Grey was letting you do the surgery!

“Alright, now be careful, pull straight up,” Grey guided.

You did as she instructed and didn’t falter when your cell phone went off. A scrub nurse took it and answered for you.

“Hey!” Your sibling exclaimed through the phone, “Look, not to bother you, but you’re a doctor and I need you right now.”

“What’s going on?” You asked.

“Just… uh, please, come home, quickly.”

“Wait!” You cried, but they had already hung up.

“Go,” Grey told you, “Scrub out and go, but make sure to call 911 if it’s emergent.”

“I promise,” You said, running into the scrub room and scrubbing out quickly.

You rushed out of the hospital and out into the parking lot. You got in your car and sped off back home, but as you were driving (breaking the speed limit extensively), you didn’t know that another car (going even faster than you) was barrelling at you, t-boning you into the other cars beside you.

“Don’t worry! We got you!” You heard around you.

“Oh god!” said a voice that you knew was Alex, but how was it Alex?

You could hear all the sounds of the hospital, but you couldn’t figure out how you were there. You were in a car accident.

You were in a car…

You were in a…

What were you in?

“I’m here,” You heard, “I’m right here, don’t worry.”

That was… who?

“Mer, what if they don’t wake up,” You heard him ask.

“Alex, don’t you dare say that! Everything will be just fine,” ‘Mer’ told ‘Alex’.

Why couldn’t you remember anything.

Okay, think. Where are you?

Grey. It was Grey something. But was it Grey or Gray. A name or the color?

What was happening to you?

You forced your eyes to open and saw a man sitting next to you. He looked tired, even as he slept. You stayed quiet to let him sleep, and as he did so, you sat trying to recognize his face. You had nothing.

You were also trying to figure out one important thing: what was your name?

As you spent more time in the hospital, everyone tried to get you to remember who you were, but everything they told you felt wrong. You couldn’t describe it, you just knew it.

Alex tried to get you to remember the most, and also tried to make you stay at the hospital, but that just pushed you farther away.

When you could get away, you took the opportunity and tried to find home and the real place you could fit in in the world.
