EHS courtyard is as good as new

After more than two years of construction, the EHS courtyard was officially opened for student and faculty use October 21.

The “Danger Keep Out” signs and the precautionary fences were taken down.

Students can now use the courtyard to eat lunch or help them travel faster from class to class.

“I’m super excited, I think it’s a great thing for the school. Getting to classes is going to take less time for most people. Some will utilize it more than others.. It’s good to have it back because I had it for [under a year], so having it as a senior makes for a really exciting time at EHS,” Ashley Sinclair-Curtis said.

The present-day building had been supposedly finished in 2010 as a result of the 2007 tornado that ripped through the old high school.

The courtyard, along with other parts of the school building like the Performing Arts Center and entryways, had been under reconstruction since 2017 due to the exterior of cast stones not being anchored properly and several leakage issues.

The stones used for visual appeal had begun to crack and was a point of concern for the safety of  the students as they walked in and out of the foyers.

These issues are no longer a hazard: Students are able to use the courtyard and school entrances and EHS is starting to become less of a construction zone.
