Going nuts about the fair

This past weekend kicked off the nation’s largest Peanut Festival, which has been a local tradition since 1938.

The festival was founded in honor of local peanut farmers and is a celebration of the harvest season.

Friends and families from around the Wiregrass come to enjoy the delicious fair food and a variety of rides, games, concerts, agriculture displays, and more!

“The fair is the best way to hang out and spend time with your friends. The food and experience as a whole [are] amazing,” Sarah Kelley said.

The fair has grown significantly since the first official start in 1938. Over the years, the fair went from a three day event to a ten day event, and the attendance reaches over 200,000 participants.

The festival is annually held the first week of November in Dothan, Alabama.

“I’ve been going to the Peanut Festival since I was seven years old… me and my family look forward to it every year,” Garrett Collette said.

The fair-filled week closes out with the annual Peanut Festival Parade on the last Saturday of the festival.
