Big Blue Band brings home the gold
The Big Blue Band competed at Phenix City with their outstanding halftime performance and were awarded first place, the Grand Champion of Phenix City.
Holding the honor as highest scoring band that night, they won best overall color guard, dance line, and band in the gold division.
Shocking the audience with their zombie skills during Thriller, they were also awarded the most entertaining band.
“My favorite part is when they start playing Thriller because of the dance routine they have for the song is so entertaining,” said Jelks.
But one award, the Grand Champion of Phenix City, stood out the most to band director, Sean Weiler.
But that is not all the Big Blue Band has accomplished. On October 21st, the band won every award in their division at the Little Bighorn Competition in Opp. They won all the best in class awards (percussion, band, drum major, dance line, color guard).
They scored the highest all day in band, dance line, and color guard, and had the second highest scores all day in drum major and percussion. They also won best solo and small ensemble for the whole competition.
Aurora Rigdon, senior and woodwind captain said, “I’m really proud that the band as a whole worked hard to achieve our goals. Being in a group that is passionate about doing our best is still the best reward of all though.”
The students practiced during the summer and almost everyday after school to perfect the show for the big competition.
“The practices are hard but worth it because our shows turn out completely amazing,” said Naomi Foster, snare drummer for the EHS drumline.
The Show was based on the seasons of the year and included songs like “Seasons of Love’” from Rent and “Thriller” by Michael Jackson.
Senior, Kassidy Jelks , said, “I feel so excited and think the show is very cool. I know I wouldn’t be able to do that so I have respect for those who can and appreciate the time and effort they put into it.”
