Pen in the Stone – A fictional tale

Julian guided Claudia up the stairs of her house, her tightly holding his hand like he was her lifeline. This was her first day back home from the hospital, and she was terrified of herself.

“Are you okay?” Julian asked. Claudia nodded, and once they reached her room, she let go of Julian’s hand and tried to figure out her surroundings. “Claudia, are you okay?” Julian pushed.

“I’m fine.”

He sighed, “Every girl that’s not fine, says she’s fine. I know you’re not fine, please, tell me what’s wrong.”

Claudia groaned and reached out to try and feel for her desk chair. Suddenly, the chair was at her fingertips with the feeling of Julian close.

“Julian…”

“What, Claudia?”

“I’ll never be normal.”

“No, but that doesn’t mean anything about you. Most people like abnormal over normal anyday.”

Claudia laughed driely and sat down. She hated that she was like this. She wanted her life back. She would never write again, read again, watch movies or tv; there were no more escapes for her.

Something was placed at her fingertips, and she realized it was a pen. Julian placed her other hand to a piece of paper and kissed her head.

“Keep writing,” He said.

“How can I?”

“Just because you can’t see the paper, doesn’t mean you can’t write on it.”

Claudia sighed and stared at where she thought the paper was. There was nothing, her imagination was gone.

“There’s nothing,” She whispered.

“Claudia, you just have to concentrate. Go back to my world. Write me like I’m not here but there.”

“I don’t know where I left off.”
