EHS announces new wrestling program
Enterprise High School announced July 17 that a wrestling program will be set to launch this school year for the first time in school history.
EHS announced the start of the program on the same day they hired the coach of the team, Matt Pipkins.
Pipkins came to Enterprise to coach after he was the former wrestling coach at Russell County High School. Pipkins was headed to Dothan to coach, as he’s also from Dothan, when he found out Enterprise was in need of a wrestling coach.
Pipkins is also an assistant coach on the 9th grade football team.
Pipkins said that tryouts will start near October 30th, with practice following shortly after.
He also said that the first match will be held November 27 during 4th block, and the season will continue all the way through February.
The team will play opponents in the 7A region and local opponents that may not be in the region, similar to how sports such as football, basketball, and volleyball do.
The team will play regional teams like Auburn and Prattville and local teams like Northview and Dothan.
The team will have 14 people on it before a match, but will also have backups and reserves that aren’t necessarily on the roster before a meet.
Athletics at EHS is taking another step in the right direction with adding a wrestling program.
