First year down for Harrison and Robertson

Enterprise High School welcomed Mr. Brent Harrison and Mr. Josh Robertson to the school’s administration last year.

Mr. Harrison was serving as one of the school’s assistant principals when Principal Matt Rogers announced he would be taking a position as president of the community college last August.

As soon as the position was posted online,  Harrison was immediately intrigued.

“I graduated from here back in 96,  and I’ve always loved Enterprise High School, and it’s always been a dream of mine to be principal of Enterprise High School,” Harrison said.

Mr. Harrison brought a lot of experience in school administration, having been principal at Charles Henderson in Troy before taking up a position at Enterprise.

“You know learning how to talk with citizens and talk with parents, especially when it gets ugly – that’s a valuable experience. And I got to get a little bit of it here, but it did help to be at another school and be the one supposedly in charge,” Mr. Harrison  said of his time at Charles Henderson.

Harrison’s tenure has seen tragedy across the nation, which sparked cries for more school safety. The school enacted new rules and procedures in response.

“We try to do a lot of what we try to do as truthfully as possible based on what students tell us. Where do you feel safe? Where do you not feel safe? What is it that we can do to make it better?” Harrison said.

Mr. Harrison assuming his new role meant a new position had to be filled. Mr. Robertson would be the one to do just that.

In October, Mr. Robertson was having to fill many responsibilities around the school during a difficult transition from being a chemistry teacher and football coach, to assistant principal.

“I mean it was tough because for the month of October I had to finish my football responsibilities. I was trying to teach my class, too, on an online platform, and then also trying to assume new duties,” Robertson said.

One thing is for certain, the faculty looks out for one another. According to Mr. Robertson, his fellow coworkers wouldn’t hesitate to help him in his new gig.

“Everybody was very helpful, and they were very patient. Each time I asked a question they would, at the drop of a hat, sit down and come and talk me through things and help me out,” Robertson said.

Of course, the football team is also one big family. Mr. Robertson noted the support and love he received from his fellow coaches, one of them being head coach Mr. David Faulkner.

“Coach Faulkner was very supportive, and he’s very supportive of everybody.  He’s a great coach. He was also awesome to work with – he still is awesome to work with. I guess the turning moment was when he said, ‘I’ll support you no matter what decision you make,'” Robertson said.

Mr. Harrison and Mr. Robertson will continue to do what they love doing, working with students, for this year and the years to follow.
