Fort Rucker’s Oktoberfest

Fort Rucker hosted their annual Oktoberfest September 28 in the Soldier Service Center Building.

This was Fort Rucker’s 16th year hosting Oktoberfest for military families on and off post.

This is an event greatly anticipated by military and native German families within the Wiregrass area.

Oktoberfest is a family orientated German fair filled with games and rides for the kids, bratwurst and beer for the adults, annually held every October.

Many military families that have been stationed in Germany were given the opportunity to enjoy this tradition with their family and fellow soldiers.

When military families come back to the United States, most of them, especially families with younger children, look forward to their October tradition of going to the fair and getting a bratwurst.

To continue the German influenced tradition, military posts throughout the country, such as Fort Rucker, host their version of an Oktoberfest.

This allows families, military and native Germans, to experience Oktoberfest outside of the festival’s native country and with their loved ones.
