Posting positivity

Positive messages on post-it notes have mysteriously appeared around the school. No one knows exactly who started putting up the inspirational notes.

But, a direct message with an Instagram account, @passthepostit, may give some insight on the purpose of these anonymous motivational messages.

When asked what the reason behind the sticky notes is, the account messaged that “the goal is to spread kindness and positivity.”

The user “hope[s] it is a reminder to everyone who sees the post-its how easy it is to be kind,” because “it costs [people] nothing to be kind, but gives back rewards before anyone even reads the note.”

The account’s owner wants readers to know how they “have been inspired by inspiring others.”

The general idea of the post-its involves writing down something encouraging and sticking it up somewhere that people will see it.

Those who see the sticky notes are encouraged to pick them up and move them from place to place in order for the uplifting messages to be seen throughout the school.

But the sticky notes idea has spread further than just the halls of Enterprise High School, for the students of Coppinville Junior High School have spotted post-its within their walls as well.

The creator of @passthepostit has even printed off stickers to place on the back of the sticky notes that encourage students to move the messages about and even make their own.

Stickers display the account’s Instagram username, Twitter handle, and a post-its hashtag so students can see other inspiring memos that their peers have written.

The user remains anonymous because “it doesn’t matter who [they] are,” for it is really of no worth to the viewers of the post-its to know who started the trend.

What “matters is if it makes a difference in just one person’s day, it is worth it for [them]” because “some have shared with [them] how [people] have been discouraged, [but they] just want to remind everyone to continue to be positive, even -especially when- those around are not, [since those people] need it the most.”

The account’s owner asks for everyone to join them in this movement to spread positivity and to share the sticky notes with them via social media by tagging them in Instagram Stories to see all of the places that the post-its are appearing.
