EHS football turns back the clock at Bates

The EHS football team went back in time October 19 as they hosted the Lee Generals at Bates  Memorial Stadium.

It was a very unique moment, as EHS hadn’t played a game there in 10 years beforehand.

It was also special as it was 25 years ago in the same stadium that EHS defeated #1 ranked in the state, Lee.

Unfortunately, the Wildcats were unable to to corral the Generals’ rushing attack, in which they ran for 328 yards, which helped them overcome the Wildcats in the end.

The Generals got on the board first with a 7-0 lead, but as the Wildcats punted to the Generals, Tedarrian Murray muffed the catch, and Wildcat long snapper/fullback Cooper Charlton pounced on the ball to give the Cats great field position.

The Wildcats were able to take advantage of the turnover as running back/wide receiver Josh McCray scored from 3 yards out to even the game at 7-7.

The Wildcats then jumped out to a 14-7 lead, as running back Maurice Hicks ran for an 11 yard score after the Cats forced a fumble on a pooch kick.

The Wildcat defense then came up with two interceptions from linebacker Tyler Van Alstine and defensive back Romaine McFarland, but the offense was unable do move the ball.

At the half, the game was tied 14-14.

The Generals then jumped out to a 28-14 lead in the second half, but the Wildcats battled back as Josh McCray ran a reverse into the endzone and also added another rushing touchdown to get the Cats within 7 as the score was 35-28.

The Cats were unable to convert on the 4 and long as the game ended with Lee winning, 35-28.

McCray ended the game with 3 rushing touchdowns and 99 receiving yards on 8 catches. Quarterback Grant Thornton went 21-34 for 241 yards and 1 interception.

Romaine McFarland led the Cats in tackles with 6 solo and 6 assisted and an interception.

The Wildcats will look to build on their efforts in this game as they seek to finish the season positively.
