Students take part in Halloween
Halloween has always been on the 31st of October. Halloween started as a Celtic holiday; the Celts believed that ghosts of the dead returned to Earth on this day.
Dressing up for Halloween derived from Irish and English traditions; once carried over to America, people would dress up and go door to door and ask for food or money.
This year EHS had several students participate in the Halloween traditions by dressing up at school.
Students enjoyed being able to dress up in a costume of their choice, as long as it complied with school dress code.
Halloween for EHS students falls into two groups: those who feel like they are too old to dress up or just do not want to and those who feel like they should go all out.
Students who did choose to dress up found joy in being able to express themselves by dressing up and being able to do so with their friends.
“I love Halloween, I always have. I love dressing up and doing my makeup for my costume. You’re never too old to dress up, it’s a mindset so if you think you’re too old or not good enough too, then you will be.” said Sierra Winchester.
Others find that school is not the place for costumes.
“I simply do not understand why people dress up at school; it’s a distraction to those around, and I do not have time. It’s the wrong place for costumes, school is for learning,” Carter Howard said.
Halloween for EHS students was diverse, not only in costumes but also in opinion.
