Giving rather than receiving

Christmas seems to always be about giving; EHS students understand that giving is better than receiving.

EHS has a couple of clubs giving gifts to those in the community.

The EHS Student Government Association and Anchor Club joined together to collect can foods and invited the rest of the school to join in by initiating a canned food competition between fans of Alabama state universities, the University of Alabama, Auburn University, and Troy University.

The SGA President played a big role in organizing the canned food drive.

“This year the Anchor Club and Student Government Association collaborated with each other to do a food drive. The food will be donated to those who cannot afford food of their own. As the student body president and a leader in many other groups, my overall goal is service, so it is very pleasing to know that I can achieve my goal of serving people by giving back to those who are in need,” Korynn Hill said.

National Honor Society, NHS has been filling up stockings with goodies and treats to give to the kids.

NHS member Carter Howard was very pleased with what the club was doing.

“It’s always so good to be a part of something so much larger than yourself, not only at Christmas but all times of the year. Being able to be a part of someone else’s life in a meaningful way means the world to me. Giving them something without expecting anything in return just shows people we care and we aren’t here for praise or credit or even a gift in return. I am so glad our school and clubs get involved in the community; it shows that as a town we are connected no matter how old we are. Age has nothing to do with it; we are just kids in a club who wanted to make a difference this Christmas, and I am glad I could be apart of that,”  Carter Howard said.

EHS is playing an important role in the community and teaching the rest of the school body that giving really is better than receiving.
