Theatre students take state
The Enterprise High Theatre Department traveled to Troy Nov. 29 to compete in the two-day Walter Trumbauer State Theatre Festival.
Students competed in numerous categories during the duration of the festival, which saw them receive a total of 33 superior scores at its conclusion.
The results were met with great satisfaction from Theatre Instructor, Mrs. Veronica Stephenson.
“I was very proud of how they performed. As great as it that we got superior scores and had a record number of students place in a state competition, we were focused on leaving it all there,” Mrs. Stephenson said.
The success was the result of months of preparation and rehearsal, a true display of the level of dedication from her students.
When asked what she believed she did well throughout the whole process, she mentioned the work she was able to do with each individual student.
“My favorite part of preparing for this competition is the one-on-one time I get with these students after school where we can really work on movement and specific lines and words. It makes a huge difference in their confidence at state,“ Stephenson said.
Even after the success the students have had, Mrs. Stephenson said the grind will never stop for the Theatre Department.
“We never stop. Our program works year round, and all rehearsing is done outside of school hours. We work with elementary schools any time we are asked; we are constantly somewhere in the community help; we’ve worked for kids’ parties; we are currently producing and directing The Lion King at DJHS, and our spring musicals are exceptional,” Mrs. Stephenson said.
The hard work and determination yielded great results that will make every student proud of our wonderful Theatre Department.
