Honoring those who served

Every year on November 11 the United States honor its Veterans for their sacrifice and service to the country.

Their service and commitment have and will always be upright and courageous.

Their undying fight for freedom and justice has and will always be ethical and honorable.

Julie Eagle, a Math Teacher at Enterprise High School, served in the Marine Corps as an E4.

An E4 (Corporal) in the Marines, is required to exercise an ever-increasing degree of maturity, leadership, and professionalism.

During her four years in the military, Julie Eagle went to basic training in Parris Island, South Carolina.

Julie Eagle was an Aircraft electrician on Harriers. Her time at basic training was hard mentally and physically, always pushing her to new limits.

“Basic training was hard mentally [because we had to] follow the rules and do what [we were supposed to, [yet we were still] in trouble,” Julie Eagle said.

Craig Buehl was a Cw2 (Pilot) in the army and served 20 years.

Buehl went to El Paso Texas, Fort Bliss, for basic training in 1987.

He also went overseas to Kosovo during a peacekeeping mission in 2000-2001.

Craig Buehl said, “I have no idea what kind of person I would be without going to the military.”

John Estes went to basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky in 1998. There he learned about his own personal limitations and what it truly means to be part of something bigger than yourself.

In the four years Estes served, he was a Warrant Officer in the army, who worked on Black Hawks as a mechanic and crew chief.

In 2001, John Estes was on a training mission and an aircraft went down: His unit lost six men that they worked with everyday.

To make a sacrifice means being ready to sacrifice ourselves.

It means giving up our time, energy, strength, and in some cases, our lives.

This is what an American soldier does every time they’re on duty.

We honor our veterans in memory, storytelling, and by never forgetting the sacrifice they give for our country.
