Hooping for a better season

The EHS basketball teams kicked off their season this month with home games.

The JV and Varsity boys as well as the Varsity girls played November 11 against the Carver Wolverines.

All teams suffered losses with the scores being 40-35 for JV boys, 74-18 for Varsity girls, and 68-56 for the Varsity boys.

“The biggest mistake [we made] was not boxing out in the first and second quarter[s],” Varsity girls large forward Jaida Gosha said.

“I think the team is working hard to get better during practice, [but] we need to be more coachable and push each other to get better,” Varsity girls guard Yasmeen Stallworth said.

The JV girls and ninth grade boys team played November 12, starting off their seasons as well.

The JV girls played hard and went into overtime, but the game ended in a close loss against the Straughn Tigers with the score being 28-27.

JV girls guard A ye vion Grimes said the team can improve “by being more respectful, working [hard] and not playing around, and giv[ing] one hundred percent [effort at] every practice.”

The ninth grade boys team lost against the Dothan Wolves 41-25.

Basketball season can potentially go through the end of February depending on how well the teams do, so there is plenty of time to improve and learn from these losses.
