Park pollution pickup

A group of students led by senior Ryan Howard and junior Alyssa Walz decided to take a stand against the pollution problem in Enterprise.

Howard and Walz organized a group chat on the social media platform Instagram, calling it “Nice Pollution, Delete It.”

They added some of their peers that were interested in helping clean Johnny Henderson Park.

“I often see a lot of trash at the park, and I thought that it would be nice to get a group together to go and pick it up,” said Howard.

Howard and Walz along with Jace Marshburn, Rebecca Badger, Annabelle Warner, Justin Walz, and Anaya White met up at the park November 25 with trash bags and gloves.

The group collected approximately four full sized trash bags worth of pollution.

The garbage items consisted mostly of paper, cups, and unidentifiable materials, but a discarded tire and asthma inhaler were also collected.

Most of the trash was found in the ditches and woods, out of sight from the typical park dweller on the sidewalks.

The members of Nice Pollution, Delete It decided that another pickup day should be held December 19 at noon; they encourage students who wish to participate to get in contact with Howard or Walz for more information.
