JROTC teams take first place overall

EHS wins first place overall in JROTC competition Feb. 22 in Montgomery, Alabama.

EHS JROTC competition teams traveled to Sidney Lanier High School to compete against other JROTC programs from around the state.

These schools go head to head to compete for trophy titles such as platoon regulation, squad regulation, platoon exhibition, squad exhibition, solo, duels and first place overall.

The competition demands both physical and mental excellence.

“This program helped my leadership ability and made me more powerful with my decision making,” state flag Cadet Sergeant Riley Buteaux said.

Regulation for drill team is more for basic marching, column, flanks, and facing movements. Exhibition is solely based on weapon spins and movements.

Anything solo or duel is going to be one or more persons marching or weapon spinning.

All categories require professionalism and dedication from the cadets.

“It showed me the basic ideas of respect and being mature” Cadet Sergeant Nolan Moos said.

Another team for JROTC is color guard, where 4 people are designated a certain job for flags. Two people are the guards while two other people hold up the state flag and the American flag.

“I learned how to interact with people. It also taught me how to relate with people,” left guard for color guard rank Cadet Sergeant Zephenyah Barnes said.

JROTC is proud of themselves, even with some minor downfalls.

Enterprise High School left this competition with first place overall, winning a majority of the trophies.
