Wildcats place first at Troy Art Day

Art Club students took home first place in the Chalk Drawing Competition on Troy Art Day, Feb 21, with their recreation of “The Creation of Adam” featuring Spider-man as Adam and Stan Lee as God.

The students on the Chalk Drawing Competition team were Maryellen Crawford, Shane Gant, Kaitlyn Flanders, Makayla Harvey, Alora Howell, Elisha Lawler, and Gabriel Powell.

Clad in their distinctive red Troy Art Day shirts, the team worked on their mural the entire day, and their hard work paid off.

Senior Elisha Lawler said “It was cold and I got chalk smeared all over my face, but I don’t regret being there with my friends. It was my last time doing this and I couldn’t miss it.”

During Troy Art Day, students from various schools enter workshops and competitions around Troy University.

The workshops included photography, handmade sketchbooks, plaster carving, button making, tile design, and a continuous collaborative drawing.

Students could compete in the Chalk Drawing Competition, Visual Arts Game Show Competition, or the Plein Air Art Competition.

Among the offered activities was a demonstration by a Chinese Master Water-colorist, Chenghao Li, in the International Art Center.

Many of the workshops were come and go, where students could participate and leave when they pleased.

“I had an amazing time creating such great art with the people I care about, regardless of us winning in our category. It was my first time going to Troy Art Day and I wish I had went multiple times, it was so much fun,” said Senior Gabriel Powell.

The Art Club hopes for another win in the competition next year, too!
